Lesson Format

Students receive one private lesson per week.  Generally, beginners take a 30 minute lesson.  More advanced students are encouraged to take either a 45 minute or 60 minute lesson.  Lessons include instruction in:

•  technique
• sight-reading skills
• ear training
• improvisation
• theory and analysis
• music history
• performance practices of different eras

Performing Opportunities

Students are encouraged to perform at the annual studio recital, which is usually held at the end of May.  The recital is truly the highlight of the school year and is a nice way to mark the students' progress.

Piano students are encouraged to participate in the twice yearly Junior Music Experience (JME).  Students perform for a judge and receive a written evaluation.  They receive an attractive ribbon the day of the festival and can earn trophies and other rewards by accumulasting points for good performances.  Piano students are also encouraged to participate in recitals and evaluations hed by the Northern Kentucky Music Teachers Association.  Students who do well at the local festival are invited to participate in the statewide evaluations in October.  You'll receive information about these events throughout the year.

Violin students are encouraged to participate in one of the string orchestra programs offered through the preparatory Department at Northern Kentucky University.
